    • Is your mouth bleeding?
    • Are you in severe pain?
    • Are any of your teeth loose?
    • Has your face or mouth been hit?
    • Is your mouth or lower facial area swollen?
    • Are your gums bulging, swollen or knotted?
    • Do you experience shooting pain when biting hard foods or eating/drinking hot/cold food/beverages?
  • What is a dental emergency?

A dental emergency is an oral health issue that requires urgent care to save a damaged tooth, control an infection or relieve severe pain.

  • How can I tell if a dental emergency is urgent?

Dental emergencies are typically urgent when there is swelling, severe pain and/or bleeding. Additional dental emergencies include knocked-out, chipped or broken teeth, crowns or fillings. Don’t continue to take over-the-counter medicine for a toothache longer than two days without contacting an emergency dentist. The toothache could be the result of a much larger issue that can escalate without immediate treatment.

  • How should I prepare for an emergency dentist appointment?

Gently rinse your mouth with water. Avoid drinking or eating. Take ibuprofen to ease pain and use a cold compress to ease swelling. Bring the dislodged tooth or crown with you if possible.

  • What will the emergency dentist do?

The emergency dentist at Rockwest Dental will ask you questions about what happened and how you feel. They will assess your dental/medical history including X-Rays. They will then treat your emergency with painkillers, antibiotics, fillings, restorative work like crowns or even an emergency oral surgery like a root canal or tooth extraction.

  • How much is an emergency dental treatment?

At Rockwest Dental Clinic, we charge $90 for an emergency exam free. Once we’ve completed the assessment and have properly diagnosed the issue, we will quote for the dental work. The cost range of treatment for the most common dental emergencies are as follows:

    • Filling – $400 to $500

    • Extraction – $600 to $750

    • Tooth Cleaning – $250

  • How much is a dental X-Ray?

An X-Ray costs from $25 – $60 at our dental office in Mississauga.
