Dentists remove tartar during teeth cleanings with a manual scaling tool or ultrasonic device. They will diligently scrape tartar from each tooth. You can remove some plaque and tartar from your teeth at home by using an electric toothbrush twice a day, but you should still have an experienced dental hygienist professionally remove hardened tartar buildup, twice a year to prevent bad breath, bacteria, tooth decay, and gum disease.
