Thanks again for providing the ultimate positive experience!
I had my first visit at Rockwest dental clinic today. The staff was exceptional from the front desk to the dentist everything was perfect. The receptionists were kind, friendly and a pleasure to work with when scheduling. Everything was on time and perfectly managed. Dr.Andrews went above and beyond when explaining to me exactly what needed to be done, he broke down the procedure in a step by step format and took the time to take pictures between every step so he could give a detailed explanation of the work that had been done with the aid of the visuals. The whole procedure, which included having cavities removed and fillings replaced was completely pain free. The filling was masterfully shaped and the results were nothing short of exceptional. Highly recommend RockWest dental clinic, for a smooth, relaxed, pain free, informative, professional dental service.

Professional & Painless Wisdom Teeth Removal
Rockwest Dental has over a decade of experience performing wisdom teeth removal procedures in Mississauga. Wisdom teeth are molars that emerge when you are between the ages of 17 to 25 years old. They usually erupt when the rest of your teeth have set comfortably in your mouth. You may not require wisdom tooth extraction if your wisdom teeth align well with the rest of your teeth, your gums are healthy and there is enough space in your mouth to accommodate them. You will require wisdom teeth surgery if these teeth come in sideways, are partially emerged or are trapped beneath your gums and jawbone.
Our Wisdom Teeth Removal Process
The wisdom tooth removal procedure is simple and relatively painless thanks to various numbing and sedation dentistry services. Our experienced oral surgeon will walk you through every step of the process and ease any anxieties you may have.
The wisdom teeth extraction surgery may involve making an incision to expose the impacted tooth and bone, dividing the tooth into pieces, removing the tooth, cleaning the area and, in some situations, closing the wound with stitches.

Benefits of Wisdom Tooth Removal
You will then have gauze placed over the area to control any bleeding. The oral surgeon will let you know how to clean your mouth and what to eat and drink following the procedure.
Having your wisdom teeth removed is very beneficial as it stops the pain and aching in the back of your mouth. Wisdom teeth extraction additionally prevents tooth decay, damage to other teeth and even gum disease!

When Should You Remove Your Wisdom Teeth?
The following are fundamental signs you will need to remove your wisdom teeth:
- You’re experiencing tooth decay from cavities to caries
- Your wisdom teeth are infected or have a cyst
- You’re unable to clean your wisdom teeth properly
- You’re experiencing swelling or pain in your jaw and gums
- X-rays indicate that your wisdom teeth are impacting adjacent teeth
Why Should You Remove Your Wisdom Teeth?
You may be anxious about getting your wisdom teeth removed, but we can assure you that the pros outweigh the cons. Here are some of the most significant reasons you should remove your wisdom teeth:

Impacted Wisdom Teeth Removal
Impacted wisdom teeth that are trapped in your gums or jawbone will cause pain and discomfort.
Tooth Damage
The emergence of wisdom teeth can damage the other teeth in your mouth, which not only causes pain but can impact your bite and cause damage to adjacent teeth.

Jaw Damage
Wisdom teeth are formed in a sac within the jawbone. If this sac fills with fluid, a cyst can emerge and damage the nerves, teeth and jawbone.
Gum Inflammation, Cavities and Gum Disease
Wisdom teeth are in the back of your mouth, which makes it challenging to brush and floss them. If they aren’t cleaned properly, the tissue surrounding them can become inflamed, leading to cavities or gum disease.

Sinus Issues
When wisdom teeth emerge in the upper jawbone, they can place pressure on your sinuses. This pressure causes pain and congestion.
How Much Does Wisdom Teeth Removal Cost?
At Rockwest Dental, the wisdom tooth extraction cost ranges from $190 to $550. The cost of the procedure is dependent on the following factors:
How many wisdom teeth we will be removing
The position of the wisdom teeth in the jaw
The level of sedation we use

Sedation Dentistry
Typically, it takes only 45 minutes to remove all four wisdom teeth.
If you’re apprehensive about this procedure, we offer oral sedation in order for you to feel comfortable and safe. Our experienced dentists will walk you through the process at length and answer any questions or concerns that may arise.

Wisdom Tooth Removal Aftercare DOs and DONTs
If you’re in pain,
It’s normal to feel pain, soreness and discomfort once the freezing in your mouth wears off for up to two days after your wisdom teeth surgery.
Do
- Take medication as instructed by your dentist or pharmacist
- Rest
- Follow the after-care instructions prescribed by your dentist
- Call your dentist if the pain remains at the same level for longer than 48 hours after your wisdom teeth removal
Don’t
- Take more medication than you’ve been instructed to take
- Mix alcohol with pain relief medication
- Drive or operate machinery if your medication is a narcotic (the dentist or pharmacist will let you know)
- Don’t chew food on the side of your mouth where the wisdom teeth have been removed until your wound heals
If your face is swollen,
You may end up with “chipmunk cheeks” the first day after your wisdom teeth removal that could stick around for up to 10 days. Swelling is completely normal and subsides slowly over the span of two weeks.
Do
- Make an at-home cold compress with a bag of frozen vegetables or by wrapping ice cubes in a towel
- Place your cold compress against the swollen parts of your face and leave it for 10 minutes on, then 10 minutes off for the first 24 hours following your procedure
- After the first day, place a warm compress on the swollen area to increase circulation and reduce swelling
- Make an at-home warm compress by warming a heating pad or hot water bottle in a towel
- Call your dentist if the swelling worsens two days after your surgery
Don’t
- Apply any heat to the swollen area in the 24 hours following your procedure
- Apply a cold compress for too long, 10 minutes at a time is plenty
If you have bleeding,
It’s normal for bleeding to occur for the first few hours after your wisdom teeth surgery. You may continue to bleed for up to 24 hours.
Do
- Leave the gauze pad provided to you by your dentist in place for an hour following the procedure
- Replace the gauze pad after one hour and bite down on it for consistent pressure
- Rest
- Keep your head raised
- Call your dentist if the bleeding can’t be controlling with a gauze pad after four hours
- The day after your surgery, gently rinse your mouth with warm water up to five times throughout the day for four days
Don’t
- Rinse your mouth within the first 24 hours following the procedure
- Chew on the gauze pad
- Drink hot beverages like coffee or tea. High temperatures will increase circulation and can lead to more blood.
- Drink alcohol or use any tobacco products for two weeks after your wisdom tooth removal. These substances can lead to infection and delay healing.
If your jaw is sore,
Your jaw will likely be sore and stiff from keeping your mouth ajar during your procedure.
Do
- Massage your jaw muscles with a warm, moist face cloth
- Eat soft foods like pasta, bananas and room temperature soup
- Call your dentist if your jaw is still sore after a week
Don’t
- Force your mouth open
- Chew gum
- Eat hard foods like candy, popcorn or chewy meats
Wisdom Teeth FAQ’s
Please read our frequently asked wisdom teeth removal questions and answers below. If you have a question related to wisdom teeth please don’t hesitate to ask us.
There are thirty-two teeth in the mouth including four wisdom teeth. Some people don’t have wisdom teeth at all and others may not have all four wisdom teeth. According to the Dental Research Journal, five to thirty-seven percent of people are missing one or more of their wisdom teeth. You will know if you have wisdom teeth by getting a dental X-ray at Rockwest Dental Clinic.
It is possible to have two sets of wisdom teeth, also known as supernumerary teeth or fourth molars, but it is extremely rare.
Wisdom teeth usually come in when you’re between the age of seventeen and twenty-five. However, on rare occasions wisdom teeth can come in earlier or later in life.
You can typically eat solid foods five days after your wisdom teeth surgery. We recommend avoiding very crunchy and acidic foods like granola or citrus for up to a week following the procedure. For the first five days following your wisdom teeth removal, you should eat soft foods like:
• Room- temperature soup or broth
• Smoothies or juice
• Yogurt
• Pudding
• Mashed or pureed vegetables and fruits
• Jell-O
• Oatmeal
• Pasta
Anthropologists believe that humans have wisdom teeth because these extra molars made it easier to chew roots ,nuts, leaves and tough meat millions of years ago. Now that we know how to soften our foods through cooking and have utensils to break food down, we no longer need our wisdom teeth.
Healing time will vary from patient to patient. In some cases, it can take up to four weeks to fully recover. In other cases, patients can be back to normal in five days. The average recovery time is about two weeks. How many wisdom teeth you’ve had removed and the teeth’s position in your mouth can affect the recovery period.
Wisdom teeth surgery takes about forty-five minutes.
The dentists will make an incision into your gum, remove any bone that blocks access to the wisdom tooth’s root, break the tooth into different pieces to remove it, clean the tooth’s socket, stitch the wound and place gauze over the site to form a blood clot and control bleeding.
